04DAYS AREQUIPA – TREKKING COLCA CANYON – AREQUIPA

DESCRIPTION OF ITINERARY:
DAY 01: AREQUIPA/ CHIVAY / CABANACONDE / LLAHUAR: Early morning around 3:00 – 3:30am a driver & guide will pick you up from the hotel in Arequipa (Peru) then you will be driven to Colca Canyon which is located 165km away from Arequipa and 42km from Chivay town, passing on the way Patapampa (4910m) the lookout of volcanoes. According to the Andean custom, formerly travelers crossed mountains and left on the highest part of the way (apachetas) small stones making many piles of rocks left by the travelers. We descend to Chivay, a small village located on the river of the Colca Valley. Arrival in Chivay village for breakfast. Then we continue direct to Cabanaconde village including stop at look-out cross of condor for 01 hour (Chivay-Cabanaconde 55km). Arrival in Cabanaconde (View point of Achachiwa) around 9:30am, where you will have magnificent views to the Colca villages. Then start our trekking into the Colca canyon, walking downhill 1200m (4:00 hours) crossing the bridge to get in Llahuar community where there are fruit trees, hotsprings and truly amazing geysers of steaming natural hotwater (Cabanaconde-Llahuar 11km). Arrival in Llahuar comnunity around 13:30pm. Free time for hostprings or go fishing in the Colca river. Dinner-menu included. Overnight at rustic bungalow-cottage in Llahuar.
DAY 02: LLAHUAR / MALATA / FURE / HUARURO WATERFALLS: Brekfast included. Morning around 8:00am start our hiking to Fure community, taking the path on left side of Huaruro river, arriving to Llatica village in 2:30 hours, a very popular place by their cochinilla (local cactus) that people use for dyeing alpaca wool, like orange, yellow and green (in the past the andean people used natural dyeing like plants, cactus), also there are also nice bungalows-cabins prepared for overnight (Llahuar-Llatica village 4.50km). Then we cross the bridge to continue our trekking in direction to Fure community, on the way enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Colca canyon (Llatica-Fure 2.00km). Arrival in Fure community after a hiking of 1:30 hours, then lunch prepared with local products. Afternon hiking 1:00 hour to Huaruro waterfall, which has 100m tall, sometimes is possible to see rainbow that forms the bottom of the waterfall (Fure-Huaruro waterfalls 2.00km). Then return to our family house. Dinner-menu included. Overnight at rustic bungalow-cottage in Fure commnunity + shared toilet.
DAY 03: FURE / LOOK-OUT APACHETA / SANGALLE: Breakfast included. Then we continue with our trekking program to Sangalle oasis, passing on the way the look-out Apacheta from where you will appreciate the Colca canyon and its rivers, also enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Colca canyon (Fure-Mirador apacheta 6.00km) about 2:30 hours hiking. On the way you will see the villages of Malata and Coshñirwa, because in the preinca time the Colca canyon was housed by Collaguas, Cabanas and Ccaccatapay, the residents of this área built many farming terraces, wáter irrigations, bridges, likewise the livestock was one of the main activities. The Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the world, which was studied and measured in 2005 by the Polish Andrew Pietowski over 4160m (north side) and 3600m (south side), located in the district of Huambo. The origin of the Colca Canyon is tectonic and formed 150 million years ago. Perhaps this day will be relaxing because our next destination is Sangalle a natural paradise located at 1900m, which looks like an oasis, beacuse it is located in the deepest part of the Colca canyon (Mirador apacheta-Sangalle 6.00km), about 2:30 hours hiking. Lunch-menu included. Afternoon at leisure to explore the área where grows fruits like lúcuma, pacay and chirimoya, relaxing in the swimming pool (20° degrees celcius) or fishing. Dinner-menu included. Overnight at rustic bungalow-cottage in Sangalle.
DAY 04: SANGALLE / CABANACONDE / CRUZ DEL CONDOR/ CHIVAY / AREQUIPA: Early morning around 4:00am we start to ascend 1200m (3:30 hours) together with the sunrise returning to Cabanaconde from where you will enjoy the wonderful view of Colca canyon, then Breakfast (Sangalle-Cabanaconde 5.00km). Then we board our transport to get the Cross of condor to appreciate the majestic flight of the condor, the condor world’s largest bird can fly up to 7000 m of height and live up to 85 years approximately. In Inca times the condor was considered a very special divinity because linked the hanan pacha (The world obove) with kay pacha (The world of here). There is a clear hierarchy at lunch time, because the adult males will eat first, then adult females and finally young condors, usually the condor are a scavenger (feeding on large mammals). Usually you can see the condor in the morning, at which time they go out of their caves to hunt mammals. Then you will be driven to the village of Chivay, making stops en route to observe the Inca terraces along Colca canyon, likewise hosprings Chacapi in Yanque village (Cabanaconde-Chivay 55km). Arrival in Chivay village around 12:00pm for lunch. Then return to Arequipa, a car trip 04:00 hours, then transfer to the hotel.
