Arrival in Moquegua, then you will have the opportunity to visit vineyards & winiries also other places of interest. Moquegua was founded by the Spanish in 1541, where was stablished the first spanish families. Today Moquegua is located on the route of Pisco, where there are about 130 winieries. Vineyards & wineries: An archaeological recognition in the Moquegua Valley identified 130 wineries sites and facilities for pressing, fermenting and storing wine, distilled in spirits, and the manufacture of earthenware vessels used for storage and transportation. Industry and commerce (wine and spirits) generated in the Andean South a thriving regional market to supply the demands of the highland cities of La Paz, Oruro, Cochabamba and especially Potosí, thus contributing to reproduce the ancient ones during the viceroyalty stage commercial circuits that formerly had been practiced by the Aymara manors of the lacustrine plateau. From there they exchanged the products derived from alpaca wool for corn, cotton and chili that the Indians cultivated in the warmest valleys of the coast, in the region they knew as the Collasuyo (aymara) or the Contisuyo (incaico). The Main Square: Admired not only for its beauty but also because it is the central point of the city. In the center of the square is a bronze fountain consists of 3 courses and it is origin is french, where the three graces of Greek mythology show their beauty: Aglaya, Talía and Edrosine. It was intalled in 1877, and attributed to Gustavo Eiffiel. Museum Contisuyo: Then we visit the Museum Contisuyo where ceramic pieces, textiles from the Inca era and among other testimonies of the Wari and Tiahuanaco culture are exhibited. Cristo Blanco Viewpoint: You will have a panoramic view to the city from the viewpoint of Moquegua which is located by the White Christ, an attractive place. Geoglyphs of Chen Chen: Located 1.5km south of Moquegua on route to Toquepala village. The geoglyphs have zoomorphic representations, some of the figures are silhouettes of the camelids. The geoglyphs would be one of the settlements of the Tiwanaku culture that developed on the southern Andean coast of Peru. Trunk Hill (Cerro Baul): Located in the district of Torata, 18km north-west, about 25 minutes by car from Moquegua. The name comes from the shape of the mountain, which resembles a trunk, where on top of the hill was discovered archaelogycal remains of Wari culture (600 – 1100 BC) and Tiawanaco culture (700 – 1000 BC). These structures are occupying an average extension of 8 hectares, the enclosures are as: courtyards, passages, squares, and also smaller enclosures for multiple uses, including quadrangular, rectangular, circular bases, among other. The visit to this place is about 1:30 hours.
